Full Circle Entertainment, the producer's of the national urban comedy tradition and ground-breaking annual event, is currently in production, reviewing and selecting Competition 2002's prospects from candidates all around the country. Invitations are currently out to key comics that are known to be of good professional standing in the urban comedy community, and for the sake of our comedy-savvy audience, are also known to "bring the comedic pain." "Since the year 2000, the Competition has been basically an invitation only contest." Comments Tony Spires, founder and executive producer. "We get hundreds of applicants but there are only 50 slots available each year. We want the best up and coming comics out there. And we feel that's what we get. The addition of the television special only makes it that much better!"
Due to the family nature of our 2002 televised program, and in holding with our ongoing mission to give Black and urban comedians a chance to gain mainstream television and film exposure, performers' material must be clean. Comedians presenting vulgar, blue or otherwise inappropriate material will not be considered. Upon producer request, comedians must demonstrate their ability to work clean by submitting a 15 minute video tape or DVD of their most recent work, free of unsuitable material. Written submission of comedians material will also be required. Qualified applicants are already being registered. At the time of this publication only five slots remain. Qualified applicants should contact Full Circle Entertainment via email at www.comedians@blackcomedycompetition.com and request registration guidelines and information. Only highly skilled and motivated comedians are urged to apply for the remaining 5 slots.
